From PhD to Startups to Silicon Valley: An RF IC Engineer's Perspective

As part of our ongoing initiative to bridge academia and industry, we invite the community to a guest lecture featuring Rui Gomes, Staff Engineer at InnoPhase IoT. In this session, Rui Gomes will share his firsthand experience navigating the path from a PhD to deep-tech start-ups and the global semiconductor market as a Radio-Frequency Integrated Circuit (RF IC) Engineer.

This session offers an industry-grounded perspective for students, researchers, and professionals in Physics, Electronic Engineering, and Telecommunications who want to understand how laboratory research connects to the global tech market.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, from 16:00 to 17:30 at the Amphitheatre Prof. Doutor Manuel Fernandes Thomaz, located within the Department of Physics at the University of Aveiro.
