POEMS hosts workshop on memristive technologies and neuromorphic computing

In July, POEMS organised a four-day training workshop on memristive technologies and their role in the future of computing. Memristive technologies are based on tiny electronic components that can "remember" past electrical activity. This means they can help store and process information more efficiently, making them promising for new types of computing hardware inspired by the human brain.

The workshop welcomed 30 participants and offered an introduction to how these emerging technologies could support future AI systems. The programme covered the journey from individual electronic devices to larger computing architectures, helping participants understand how research at the materials and the device levels can contribute to next-generation hardware.

The training combined expert presentations with practical sessions using tools such as Python and COMSOL, giving participants the opportunity to apply concepts through simulations and hands-on exercises.

The programme featured contributions from recognised researchers in the field, including Gianluca Milano, Stephan Menzel and Valeria Bragaglia.

By bringing together theory, practical tools and expert insight, the workshop helped participants gain a clearer understanding of memristive technologies and their potential role in more efficient computing systems.
