POEMS launches Academia-Industry Working Group
18-09-2025
On 17 September, the POEMS – Portuguese Competence Centre for Semiconductors officially launched its Academia-Industry Working Group, with an online meeting bringing together over 30 representatives, including leading companies from the semiconductor sector: Amkor Portugal, Entangled Space, HFA - Henrique, Fernando & Alves, Iobundle, PETsys, PICadvanced, Powertools Technologies, and Synopsys
This working group has been established with the mission of bridging academic research and industrial practice, creating a privileged forum for collaboration to accelerate innovation and strengthen the competitiveness of Portugal’s semiconductor ecosystem.
During the session, the vision and strategy of POEMS were presented, with a focus on three key areas: establishing an observatory for microelectronics and semiconductors, promoting and internationalising networks and partnerships within the sector, and providing specialised support in training, technology, and business development.
A central theme of this first meeting was the development of talent and skills. Through a brainstorming session with participating companies, the main challenges in attracting, retaining, and qualifying specialised professionals were identified, setting the stage for the group’s upcoming initiatives.
With this step, POEMS reinforces its commitment to advanced training and the development of strategic skills, promoting comprehensive capacity-building programmes and initiatives that will help shape the future of the semiconductor industry in Portugal.
